SAAF hosts Kenyan women
On March 28, 2007, SAAF hosted five women from the northeast region of Kenya. These women come from a variety of different backgrounds and speak many different languages, but all work as professionals, activists and politicians in Kenya, and came to Tucson as part of a program organized by the League of Women Voters of Greater Tucson, and sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. During their week in Tucson, the women met with elected officials and visited several community organizations, including SAAF. The League of Women Voters and Tucson Vice Mayor Carol West hope that the program participants will be able to take the things they saw and learned in Tucson and bring them back to their own country to advance the rights of Kenyan women.
During their time at SAAF, the Kenyan visitors heard presentations from representatives from each of SAAF’s departments, including prevention, client services, volunteer resources, and development. The women asked many insightful questions and shared information about the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Kenya.
