Job Description:
The Grants Research Volunteer provides assistance to the Grants Coordinator by using the computer, Internet, and public library resources to find new grant funding opportunities. Grants from corporations and private foundations help to fund many of the programs and services offered by SAAF such as the Food Programs for People Living with HIV/AIDS to AIDS Educator training with Volunteer Resources.
Primary Duties:
- Research grant prospects via databases on the Internet and at the Tucson-Pima Public Library (Main Branch downtown).
- Compile prospect information and forward to the Grants Coordinator.
- Enter prospect information in Access database.
- Some grant research can be conducted from your home computer.

For volunteers who would like more hands-on experience with proposal preparation and/or grant writing, please contact the Grants Coordinator for more information.
Time Commitment:
- Prefer 2-4 hours per week or 8-12 hours a month (can be flexible based on skill level).
- Minimum commitment of 2-3 months.
Required Skills:
- Prior grant research experience, Internet research or database search skills preferred.
- People with basic computer experience, a genuine interest in learning grant research skills and willing to make the minimum time commitment can be trained.
Training:
- SAAF Volunteer Orientation – required
- Overview of grant research tools at SAAF and grant funding basics – 1-2 hours
- Overview of grant research database at library – 1-2 hours
- Free Grants Orientation session offered at the Tucson-Pima Public Library (approx. 2 hours) – optional
Supervision - Grants volunteers report to the Grants Coordinator.
